From Bouquet Canyon’s Original 1950s Tracts to Skyline Ranch’s New Construction
Saugus covers more housing eras than almost any other part of Santa Clarita. Bouquet Canyon is the original Saugus — its first subdivision, the Bonelli tract, dates to the early 1950s, and the area now includes more than 40 separate tracts along Bouquet Canyon Road. Plum Canyon, just east, adds more than 30 additional neighborhoods along Plum Canyon Road. Skyline Ranch, the newest addition, is still under construction east of Plum Canyon with more than 2,200 homes planned. Copper Hill and Five Knolls round out the community.
Saugus also has a piece of railroad history: the original Saugus Train Station, once a working stop on the Southern Pacific line here, was later relocated and is now preserved at Heritage Junction in neighboring Newhall’s William S. Hart Regional Park.
What Saugus’s Age Range Means for Your ADU
Older Bouquet Canyon homes, often on larger established lots with fewer HOA design restrictions, are frequently good candidates for a detached ADU or garage conversion. Newer Skyline Ranch and Plum Canyon tracts usually come with active HOAs that add an architectural review step on top of the city’s own approval — something we account for when we scope your project timeline.
Benefits of Adding an ADU in Saugus
- Flexible Living Arrangements: Older Bouquet Canyon lots often have room for a detached unit without a tight setback squeeze.
- Rental Opportunities: A growing population across Plum Canyon and Skyline Ranch keeps local rental demand strong.
- Property Value Growth: A well-designed ADU adds usable space in a community that’s still actively expanding.
Saugus is inside city limits, so ADU permits go through the City of Santa Clarita’s Planning Division under SCMC §17.57.040. Contact Santa Clarita ADU or call (661) 486-8393 to get started.
